Kanye West Sued Over “Bound 2” Sample
Kanye West has been enjoying many year-end accolades for his album “Yeezus,” which include two Grammy nominations. However, he has just been hit with a lawsuit over his latest single from that album, “Bound 2,” which featured a racy video with his fiancee Kim Kardashian.
According to the New York Daily News, Ohio singer Ricky Spicer said that his 12-year-old voice is featured on the song without his permission. Spicer, 56, was the lead singer of group The Ponderosa Twins plus One.
“Mr. Spicer’s voice is sampled exactly as he recorded it and his voice … is heard several times,” said the suit, filed Monday in Manhattan Supreme Court.
Spicer is demanding that West compensate him or cease and desist from using his voice. Listening to the song below, it’s pretty clear that Kanye used the vocals, but the question is did Yeezus obtain the rights to use it from the appropriated copyright holders.
