Sex Abuse Case Against Kevin Clash Gets Thrown Out
Elmo Puppeteer Catches Break In Sex Abuse Case
Former “Sesame Street” puppeteer Kevin Clash found a reason to smile after he caught a huge break in his sexual abuse cases. The U.S. Court of Appeals dismissed three sex abuse lawsuits.
Cecil Singleton, Kevin Kiadi, and a person only referred to in court documents as “S.M.” all claim they were sexually abused by Kevin Clash, 53, more than ten years ago when they were under the age of consent. The case was initially dismissed by a New York judge because the suit was filed after the legal statute of limitations, which is six years, had expired. The trio of men brought their case to Appeals Court because they say they didn’t fully realize the harmful mental effects of the sexual abuse until 2012.

However, according to court documents from the U.S. Appeals Court, the case was thrown out again because the trio and their attorneys “failed to provide any reason why [they] were unable to discover their injuries prior to 2012.” The Court of Appeals backed the New York judge’s decision because they found the arguments made by the three plaintiffs to be “without merit.”
This case being thrown out is only a small victory for Kevin Clash. He is still facing a lawsuit in Pennsylvania brought on by Sheldon Stephens. Stephens claims Clash smoked crystal meth while he sexually abused him when he was 16-years-old. Pennsylvania laws are a little more lenient when it comes to statute of limitations.
Clash resigned from his position as the voice and puppeteer of Elmo due to the negative publicity he received from these sex abuse allegations.
