“RoomieLoversFriends”
The show, now in its third season, has been heating up since we first clued you in on the series early last year. Tamiko and Jay have gotten together, but now her father, girlfriends from the past, and new tenants in the building are in the mix. Sh-t gets real fast, but it’s still leave-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat entertaining.
“The BIZZ Plan”
This series isn’t out just yet, but we’re marking our calendars. “The BIZZ Plan” is an interview series put together by Benoni, a web series producer who decided to strike out on his own. Through his series, we’ll see how accomplished talent in business and entertainment, such as Vine sensation King Bach, got their start and what’s allowed them to keep their momentum going. It premieres Friday, July 25.
“Everything I Did Wrong In My 20’s”
When we get older sometimes we tend to questions the decisions when we were young and dumb. And that’s where “Everything I Did Wrong In My 20’s” comes in, so we can see it play out before our very eyes and not feel so guilty. The show is centered around Stephanie Rogers, an unemployed 30-something, whose best friend just died (it’s totally not what you think), and she has been trying to get back on her feet. It’s funny and thoughtful. Stephanie can be seen in all of us, and she shows us how to cope when we think life has truly got us down.
“Black Actress”
Being an actress is hard. At least that’s what “Degrassi” alum and creator Andrea Lewis is trying to convey. It takes place in New York City as Kori Bailey goes on auditions trying to score her big break (or any break, actually). What’s really cool about her series is that each episode features a chat from black actresses like Vanessa Bell Calloway, Reagan Gomez, and Jenifer Lewis. And check for the Mack Wilds cameo.
“Butter & Brown”
Everybody likes to eat, right? In “Butter & Brown,” hosts Leslie Robinson and Seth Brundle as they get down in the kitchen. They have great chemistry, and it shows when they give recaps of their dates from the previous night. as they give us drink recipes to guzzle and delicious meals to prepare. (I made their penne alla vodka to rave reviews.) Try out their recipes!
“Brothers with No Game”
Taking place in London, “Brothers with No Game” follows four guys living their every day lives while they try and get girls. We see them in the friend zone while desperately trying to climb out.
“Yellow”
Austin is a black male — a black, light skinned male to be specific. In “Yellow” docu-series we see the struggles Austin goes through just to get respect. How does it work where your date disses you for being light skinned and then she flirts with your dark skinned brother (like actual brother)? Not sure, but it happened to him. Funny and slightly tragic, “Yellow” is a must see.
Bonus: “It’s Akilah… Obviously
Okay, this isn’t a web series, but it’s certainly a YouTube channel you should be subscribed to! Akilah where she acts out certain scenarios, like living with evil roommates and what it’s like to meet your first black girlfriend. If you don’t laugh, you have no soul. Yup, that’s it. No soul.
