J. Cole Is Set To Appear On Wale's Upcoming Album
Wale Announces J. Cole Feature On “The Album About Nothing”
With his upcoming release The Album About Nothing due out shortly, Wale has just embarked on a national Simply Nothing tour to support the project. After the first show of the tour, Wale caught up with HotNewHipHop and confirmed that fans can expect a J. Cole feature on the record.
“Festivus ain’t nothing compared to it,” Wale said, referencing both his recent mixtape and new album. “It’s all me right now. I ain’t have no features on it, except Jeremih. And J. Cole did a hook. It’s all me right now.”
Although the Jeremih feature was released months ago as the album’s first single, “Body,” Wale even admitted that he’s thinking about scrapping the song from the album’s final track-list.
“I’m on some renegade shit, I might take ‘Body’ off my album,” he said. “Me and my label are talking about. I want all new records, even the single. What’re we here for? What kinda message am I sending if I’m chasing radio. This is the most creative project of my life…It fits the concept of the album but I just wanna be like fuck that, give them all new records.”
Speaking about the album more generally, Wale built the record up as his “most creative musical experience” ever.
“One of those things that you gonna get this joint or you not,” he added. “A lot of people ain’t gonna get it, but the people that get it are gonna say it’s genius. This is my moment to show what I can do from a music director standpoint.”
Returning to his recently free mixtape Festivus, Wale admitted that both Jay Z and Rick Ross tried to talk him out of the release.
“I feel a little uncomfortable when I don’t give people [music],” he said. “Jay and Ross, they was like, ‘Don’t drop no free project.’ I’m just like, ‘I can’t even sleep at night, I have too.’ I’m sleeping better now, I’m sleeping ’til 9 o’clock in the morning. Before I was waking up like…I’m a studio rat.”
