Lifetime Readies for ‘Whitney’ Premier
Dave Hogan
The long-awaited Whitney Houston biopic, Whitney, premiers on Lifetime tomorrow, Saturday, January 17. Directed by the stellar Angela Bassett and starring Yaya Dacosta in what could be a career-defining role, Whitney has seen its fair share of controversy; namely, Whitney Houston’s family members expressing their wishes that the movie not be made. Nevertheless, Bassett took the reigns and proceeded to get Houston’s story to the small screen. Now Whitney Houston fans and skeptics alike will have to tune in to Lifetime Saturday at 8PM EST to see if Whitney does right by the late pop icon, or receives the same dragging and side-eye Lifetime’s ill-fated and curiously (mis)cast Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B received when it aired in November.
