Lil B Rescued From Duplex Fire By A 15-Year-Old Neighbor
Rapper Lil B told authorities he was grateful to be alive after nearly sleeping through a Bay Area fire responsible for over $350,000 in estimated damages. The Contra Costa Times reported 15-year-old Mateo Ysmael spotted flames early Thursday morning, alerted his stepmom, and rescued his siblings and their pets before alerting their neighbor in the duplex.
As it happens, their neighbor was rapper Lil B, and the self-proclaimed ‘Based God’ was napping when flames began to engulf the property.
‘I’ve got to thank the Contra Costa Fire folks for doing such an amazing job keeping it contained,’ Lil B told The Contra Costa Times. ‘They were extraordinary. It could’ve been so much worse than it was. Like I said, I’m grateful to be alive.’
Known for releasing hundreds of songs at a time—including early work with producers Clams Casino and Keyboard Kid—Lil B told authorities many of his costumes and some of his music were the only things damaged. He took to Instagram to post footage of the fire and a picture of the damage with the caption, ‘The fire will not stop me.’ Both posts can be viewed below.
According to The Times, authorities believe the blaze was of an electrical nature. It was suspected to have originated in the garage of an adjacent unit before penetrating a firewall and spreading. Contra Costa Battalion Chief, Lon Goetsch, told The Times the unit will most likely have to be rebuilt.
