President Obama to Address the Country in Tonight’s State of the Union
In tonight’s State of the Union Address, President Obama is expected to talk about the economy, but many who have been on the front lines of the #BlackLivesMatter movement have expressed their desire to hear the president discuss issues facing African Americans. With the ongoing activism in Ferguson, MO, New York, Oakland, and all around the country in the aftermath of Mike Brown’s and Eric Garner’s deaths at the hands of police officers, many African Americans have been critical of the president’s perceived silence on these urgent issues.
Whether or not President Obama makes any specific remarks regarding these matters during tonight’s address is yet to be seen. The State of the Union Address will stream live on whitehouse.gov at 9PM EST.
