A majority of the coverage on Bobbi Kristina Brown‘s coma has focused on the troubled child heiress narrative. We’ve seen family drama, alleged drug use, the warning signs and the false reports of a life gone too soon.

It wasn’t always like this. Right before the turn of the millennium, she was Whitney Houston‘s cute and lovable daughter. The below clip shows Houston in 1999, when she was embarking on her international My Love Is Your Love World Tour. On this stop in Germany, Houston brought Bobbi Kristina to help perform “My Love Is Your Love.”

The above clip is unmitigated joy between mother and daughter. The audience embraced the moment, cheering a shy Bobbi Kristina as she sang, “Clap your hands.”

Almost 16 years have passed and the connection between the two has since taken a far more tragic tone. But at least in this clip, for a moment, you could just look at their smiles.
