Disney's $1M Commitment To United Negro College Fund

The Walt Disney Company announced today it is partnering with the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) through a $1 million commitment to provide scholarships and professional tools to African American students.

The Walt Disney Corporate Scholars Program will target high-achieving African American students in under-served communities across the country.

In addition to financial assistance, the Corporate Scholars Program will offer selected students a range of career-building tools. Participants will have access to mentorships, a Career Navigator Web-based platform for learning, and be given the opportunity to compete for internships within the Walt Disney Company.

“Higher education is the key to a successful future, especially in an increasingly knowledge-driven economy,” Robert A. Iger, chairman and chief executive officer of The Walt Disney Company, said in a statement. “Our program with UNCF will provide tools and resources to make college more accessible for promising students in historically under-served communities to ensure they are prepared and empowered to achieve their career dreams.”

The four-year award for undergraduates will be administered by UNCF. Half of the recipients will be selected from historically black colleges and universities, while the others will come from other academic institutions.

Students must have an interest in pursuing a career in the entertainment industry, among other requirements.
