For whatever reason, T-Pain is taking a while to release Stoicville: The Phoenix, his first album in four years. There’s still no definitive release date, but at least you have an Aaliyah collaboration to look forward to.
T-Pain is releasing a new mixtape, The Iron Way, on Friday and you’re going to hear Baby Girl’s voice on one of the songs, according to him.
“I actually have Aaliyah on a song,” T-Pain said to VIBE. “These are vocals people never heard before. They were actually doing an Aaliyah album a few years ago. They told me do two songs and I could pick one to keep.”
T-Pain has built up a lot of goodwill over the past few months. A polarizing artist because of his autotune usage, he’s won over a lot of people with some solid songs and his excellent (auto-tuneless) performance for NPR. Still, as Drake and Lifetime can attest, anything involving a legend like Aaliyah is risky business.
Anyway, we’ll see what happens on Friday.
