While Baltimore is under curfew for a week to curb evening protests sparked by the death of Freddie Gray, hundreds marched through New York City tonight in solidarity and in protest of ongoing police brutality around the country.
An organized #NYC2Baltimore gathering in Union Square drew support from the likes of Russell Simmons and brought out members of Pro Era who joined in on the protest and a march that moved west on East 17th Street. In images posted on Twitter and Instagram rapper Joey Bada$$ is pictured interacting with fans and organizers in the crowd.
In a clip posted on Instagram, Bada$$ leads a chant criticizing the N.Y.P.D.’s own history of violence. “Who’s the deadliest gang?” he yells. “N.Y.P.D.!” the crowd responds.
In another clip, a chant of “Whose streets? Our streets!” rings out as the marchers took to the center of the Manhattan streets.
