More than a year after the incident occurred, free agent NFL running back Ray Rice has officially been cleared of any criminal charges for striking his wife in a hotel elevator last February.
Today Judge Michael Donio dismissed the domestic violence charges upon learning that Rice had followed through fully on the terms of his mandated pretrial intervention, according to USA Today. As a part of the agreement Rice paid a paltry $125 fine and underwent anger management counseling.
Rice faced a charge of third-degree aggravated assault for the violence he committed against his wife Janay Palmer—who was his fiancee at the time of the assault.
Rice successfully appealed the NFL’s decision to suspend him indefinitely from the league but his future as a professional football player remains uncertain as he has yet to be signed following his reinstatement.
