Chip Kelly Released By The Eagles As Head Coach
Any Given Tuesday: Philadelphia Eagles Fire Head Coach Chip Kelly
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly is officially having the worst week ever.
After the Eagles botched their last chance to clench a playoff spot with a loss to the Washington Washington Football Team on Sunday, the Eagles organization responded with the abrupt decision to send Kelly packing.
Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie spoke briefly— and generically— on Chip’s release in a statement issued by the team on Tuesday saying,“We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward.”
Chip had only completed his second year as head coach for the Eagles, but the team had a tumultuous 2015 season and are currently ranked second in the NFC East division at 6-9.
Eagles’ offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur will step in as acting head coach as the Eagles close out their season this Sunday against the NY Giants. A press conference on Chip’s release is scheduled for Wednesday, according to ESPN reports.
