The White House is taken over by North Korean terrorists and their mastermind who wants his country’s freedom restored. Former Secret Service agent Mike Banning is back to save the day, and he finds himself as a one man army who is looking to save the President and the world from a bigger crisis ahead. If you don’t have plans on seeing it this Friday here are 5 reason why you might want to.
Brings Out Your Inner Patriot
After watching this it almost brings out the inner hero in you. A former tough guy secret agent turned pencil pusher played by Gerard Butler, gets to relive his darkest moments trying to rescue the President of the United States. The movie gives an idea into America versus North Korea which isn’t the main idea of the flick but more of a “Die Hard” meets “Rambo”. He’s on a mission to save the world from would be terrorists. What else would he do?
It Could Really Happen
As far-fetched as the story line maybe it’s actually a possibly that North Korea, or any country, could have its eye on the White House and look to take it over. With the c1300 flying over Washington, D.C. (which is more than unlikely to happen) and rips though our nation’s capital, terrorists disguised as tourists hit the ground. Sound impossible?
Gerard Butler is Back
After doing really bad ass flicks like “300”, “RocknRolla” and “Law Abiding Citizen”, Butler decided to take a break from his action films and move into comedies, such as “How to Train Your Dragon”. While those other movies were okay, his role in “300” pretty much labeled as the guy that kicks ass and he returns to full form in this film. He takes on all comers as a one-man army (think Bruce Willis in any “Die Hard” movie) all in the name of saving the President.
Leaves You On Edge
Throughout the movie things are very predictable for most characters, and foreshadowing is pretty simple. As for Butler’s character, Mike Banning, he has a few close calls. Just when you think this might be over for him, he does some fancy hand work squirms out the situation. He gives the impression he could being taking that dirt nap but we find out how bad Mr. Banning is and why he was Secret Service agent. To keep on you on edge, there are numerous gun fights, knife fights, and hand-to-hand.
It Takes You To School
Even though the main idea of the film is Mike Banning trying to save everyone he comes in contact with, you get an indirect history lesson. There are many references to North Korea’s DMZ, which I personally have no idea about this topic, but after some research after seeing the movie, I found the DMZ is the Korean Demilitarized Zone. The movie uses real political topics and situations going on in North Korea today and incorporate them into the movie historical action kick ass (okay, we kinda made up that genre).
