8. “Big Words”

AFFRM’s third release, “Big Words”  is the directing debut of journalist turned filmmaker Neil Drumming.  Members of a once promising 90’s hip-hop group cross paths on the night of the 2008 presidential election when Barack Obama is voted into office.  Strong performances by Dorian Missick and Gbenga Akinnagbe carry this provocative drama as their characters ponder their place as modern black men as our nation teetered on the precipice of change.

7.  “Despicable Me 2”

Reformed ex-villain Gru is back as he settles into fatherhood in this hilarious 2011 follow-up.  Gru meets his match in rookie Agent Lucy Wilde of the Anti Villain League, who recruit Gru to track down the nefarious El Macho.  Steve Carrell and Kristen Wiig bring loads of fun and chemistry voicing the two lead characters, and those super adorable minions steal the show once again.

6.  “Let Me Explain”

Kevin Hart is the hardest working man in Hollywood. The past year has been a series of home runs for the pint-sized comedian,starring in the hit rom-com “Think Like A Man,”  BET’s  hilarious reality show spoof “Real Househusbands of Hollywood” and hosting the 2012 MTV Awards.  In his third big screen stand up special, Hart shows his gift of finding the humor in the dysfunction of both his personal and professional lives.
