The Summer of 2013 has been pretty stoked with big budget films, comedies and indie darlings, but which ones should you definitely see? TheUrbanDaily.com will be counting down the must-see summer movies that are already in theaters and coming soon to a big screen near you!

4.  “Pacific Rim”
For an action-packed summer popcorn flick, “Pacific Rim” delivers.  When the Kaiju, alien sea monsters,  set out to destroy the earth, humanity strikes back with the Jaegers – 250 ft. robots designed to protect its citizens.  Charlie Hunnam (“Sons of Anarchy”) a former Jaeger pilot is called by into service by Marchall Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) when the war between Kaiju and the Jaegers take a turn for the worst.  Beautifully shot battle scenes and the onscreen man candy make “Pacific Rim” worth the price of admission.

3.  “The Conjuring”
James Wan may very well be this generation’s king of horror.  One of the co-creator’s of the “Saw” and “Insidious” franchises, Wan is bringing chills and thrills to moviegoers without the usual blood and gore.  “The Conjuring” is based on the real life haunting of the Perron family, who move into an old Rhode Island farmhouse.  The Perrons recruit Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmigia), paranormal investigators, to rid their home of hostile, supernatural guests.

2.  “Man of Steel”  

“Man of Steel” is the Superman movie we’ve been waiting for.  Director Zach Snyder has given Superman a 21st century upgrade with the impossibly handsome Henry Cavill, resulting in a successful reboot of DC Comic’s most iconic superhero.  Russell Crowe brings virility and gravitas as Jor-el, and Michael Shannon is deliciously wicked as Supes’ nemesis, General Zod.

1.  “Fruitvale Station”

The name Oscar Grant will find its place in the annals of American history and the fight for social justice.  First time director Ryan Coogler re-creates Grant’s last day on earth in the emotionally devastating “Fruitvale Station.”  Michael B. Jordan plays Grant, a young black man at the crossroads of a once turbulent life, trying to do right by his family when tragic circumstances lead to his life coming to an abrupt end.  In light of the recent Zimmerman trial, “Fruitvale Station” strives to bring humanity and de-stigmatize the existence of African-American men.
