Beastie Boy Says Tupac’s Desire To Be A Gangster Ultimately Killed Him
In an exclusive interview with Vanity Fair, Michael “Mike D” Diamond of the Beastie Boys says Tupac Shakur’s desire to be accepted as a “gangsta” may have contributed to his violent death in 1996.
“He was so determined to be authentic, it ultimately killed him,” he tells Vanity Fair.
Diamond sites Tupac’s relatively middle class upbringing, attending performing arts school and being a dancer for Digital Underground that belied the “Thug Life” persona he created. Watch the clip below:
