Macklemore & Ryan Lewis “Downtown” (NEW MUSIC)
Since Kendrick Lamar decided to go funk on To Pimp A Butterfly, all of his peers are following suit, including Seattle rapper Macklemore and his producer homie Ryan Lewis.
Channeling 1980s flava, Macklemore and Ryan manage to mash up everything thing you enjoy about funk, hip-hop, and pop, and put it in one record.
“She got 1988 Mariah Carey hair, everywhere/ mom jeans on her derriere/ throwing up the west side as we tear in the air,” raps Macklemore.
To avoid any Marvin Gaye-type lawsuits, Macklemore credited hip-hop legends Kool Moe Dee, Eric Nally, Melle Mel, and Grandmaster Caz for sampling. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are set to performtheir new single at the MTV Video Music Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
