Footage from the shooting death of a Black Chicago teen at the hands of a murderous police officer has now been released to the public and it’s as horrifying as expected.
According to multiple news reports, Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke was pursuing 17-year-old LaQuan McDonald on October 20, 2014 in response to a call about a man armed with a small knife and behaving “erratically” while burglarizing several cars in the area. The official police report goes on to allege that McDonald refused to drop his weapon several times after being instructed to do so by law enforcement on the scene, with Van Dyke also claiming that the teen lunged at him, which he cites as the reason for opening fire. The disturbing video shows Van Dyke gunning McDonald down with several shots before firing more shots into his lifeless body as he lay slain on the ground.
The graphic dashcam footage of the shooting is shown in the video below.
Van Dyke shot McDonald a total of 16 times and has since been fired from the Chicago PD and charged with first-degree murder. Thousands took to the streets of Chicago in protest and support of the McDonald family tonight just ahead of the dashcam footage being released.
