Kanye West Defends Taylor Swift Lyric In "Famous"
Kanye West Defends “Famous” Taylor Swift Lyric & Speaks On 2009 VMA Incident
Kanye West has been pretty silent about the songs on The Life Of Pablo album since it dropped last month, but no more.
One of the most talked about TLOP lyrics is West name-dropping Taylor Swift, in which he said he made the singer who she is today. On “Famous,” West raps, “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / Why? I made that bitch famous.”
Kanye addressed the controversial lyrics over the weekend while performing the track at a show in Manila, Philippines.
He also called the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards in which he swiped Taylor’s mic “the beginning of the end of my life,” and stated that he “just said what everybody else was thinking” on “Famous:”
“This is the song that broke the writer’s block for me, because it’s something I wanted to say so bad. So if I get in trouble for saying the truth, what’s being said the rest of the time? And I had to fight every day of my life, with the whole world turned against me, for saying out loud what everyone else felt. But that’s the job of an artist, of a true artist: not to be controlled by their finances, not to be controlled by perceptions, but only to be controlled by their truth.”
