Love Jones Vs. Love & Basketball: Which Is The Better Black Romance Movie?
We’ve finally reached the last round of TheUrbanDaily.com’s Black Romance Movie Tournament! Love Jones and Love & Basketball have beat out the other 14 movies in the fan voting to reach the finals. Who will prevail?
On one hand you have the seminal 1997 romantic drama Loves Jones directed by then newcomer Theodore Witcher. The story of two young Chicago natives, Nina Mosely and Darius Lovehall navigating the nuances of relationships amidst a backdrop of poetry, writing and professional self-discovery was an instant classic.
On the other hand you have Gina Prince-Blythewood’s 2000 directorial debut, the romantic drama Love & Basketball. Two athletes, Monica Wright and Quincy McCall, learn about the game of basketball and the game of love, but find out that keeping score for both is harder than it seems.
Not to mention both films had amazing music soundtracks.
