L.A. Reid To Be A Judge On Simon Cowell’s X-Factor
Music industry mogul Antonio “L.A.” Reid is set to leave his position as chairman of the Island Def Jam Music Group to become a judge on the U.S. version of Simon Cowell’s upcoming talent competition, X-Factor.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reid is being released from his contract with Island Def Jam early so that he can take the job on the show. However, rumors have been swirling for quite some time that Reid’s job at Island Def Jam was in danger. With the recent announcement of former Universal Music Group (which owns IDJ) chairman Doug Morris’ move to Sony, Reid’s days appeared to be numbered. The Hollywood Reporter says that Reid is expected to follow Morris to Sony.
We interviewed Def Jam recording artist Shyne last year who confirmed to us that Reid was on his way out at the label.
Auditions for The X-Factor begin on March 27th in Los Angeles.
