Black Entertainment Television debuts

What: In August 1979, with a dream of delivering programming that catered to African-Americans and a $15,000 loan and six figure investment from TCI, Robert L. Johnson started Black Entertainment Television. The fledgling network began broadcasting in January 25, 1980.
