Rebbie Jackson "Centipede" [ONE HIT WONDER]
ONE-HIT WONDER WEDNESDAYS: Rebbie Jackson "Centipede"
When one of your younger brothers is the most famous pop singer in the world, you’re bound to reap the benefits.
In 1984, at the height of Michael Jackson mania, the eldest of the Jackson children, released her debut single “Centipede.”
The song, written and produced by her brother Michael, was a success. It reached #4 on Billboard’s R&B chart, and was certified gold.
It was Rebbie’s first and last hit single, despite releasing three more albums and a handful of singles.
Random bit of trivia: Singer Martha Wash, who made headlines in the early 90s because she was not properly credited for singing on hits like C&C Music Factory’s “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” and Black Box’s “Strike It Up” and “Everybody”, was not credited for her work on this song, singing the lead adlibs from 3:39-4:07.
Now if only someone could tell us what the hell this song is about…
