VIDEO: The Great (Hip-Hop) Debates - Nas "Black Girl Lost" VS Outkast "Jazzy Belle"
VIDEO: Nas “Black Girl Lost” Vs. Outkast “Jazzy Belle”
This weekend in the middle of having a Jay-Z vs. Nas debate with a bunch of other hip-hop heads, Nas’ “Black Girl Lost” came up. Titled after the Donald Goines book of the same name, BGL was one of the standout tracks of Nas’ 1996 album It Was Written.
I haven’t thought of the song in a long time, but since “misguided muses” are plentiful in the rap game (gotta wonder Nas’ baby mama Carmen Bryan’s thoughts on the song) I thought it’d be interesting to start a debate on the subject and Outkast’s “Jazzy Belle” seemed like a fitting match to go up against Nas’ black queen gone wrong.

My vote is with ‘Kast (nobody that knows me should be surprised) but Nas hits that point home hard too.
